For around 36p per pupil per science lesson in Year 1, a Founding Partner can help fund what ABC Science is designed to be: the most memorable, practical and inspiring science lessons of a child's primary education. This is not a one-off science day — it is an investment in the adults, equipment and teaching infrastructure of 100 schools.
The problem
Primary science is taught by non-specialists, with almost no kit
Across the Midlands — as nationally — primary science rests on teachers who are not subject specialists, in schools that cannot afford the equipment to make it real.
- Most schemes of work are not designed to inspire future scientists.
- 91% – 95% of primary teachers are non-subject specialist teachers.
- 90%+ of primary teachers had a poor experience of science at secondary school.
- Two weeks maximum of university time on science during a PGCE.
